Month of Prophet Muhammad alaihissalam

Assalamualikum
Mahe shabaan shareef Mubarak
15th shabaan Shabe Baraat or Lailatul bara'a  Mubarak

Sha’abaan – month of forgiveness of sins:

It has been narrated on the authority of Hadhrat Anas bin Malik (May Allah be well pleased with him), he said that the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam) among the great months of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) is the month of Rajab and that is the month of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala). The one who respects and reveres Rajab verily reveres the commands of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) and Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) will enter the person into Jannah who reveres His command and will grant him His pleasure.
Sha’abaan is My month. Whoever reveres Sha’abaan verily reveres My command and whoever respects My command, on the day of the Qiyamah, I will be the his helper and a source of good for him.
Ramadhan is the month of My Ummah. Whoever respects Ramadhan and maintains its sanctity and does not violate it and fasts in its days and stands up in worship in its nights and saves his organs, that person will come out of Ramadhan in such a state that there will no sin on him for which Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) will call him to account.
(Baihaqi, Shu’abul Iman, Hadith No: 3652, Kanz Ul ‘Ummal, Hadith No: 35216)

Hadith related from the Companion Abdullah b.'Amr (May Allaah be pleased with him) which says that the Prophet(Sallalahu Alaihi Wassalam) said: "Allah looks at His creation during the night of the
15th of Sha'ban and He forgives His servants except two- one intent on hatred (mushanin) and a murderer (qatilu nafs). ( Ref : Musnad Ahmad 2/176 #6642. Al-Bazzar also related this Hadith and he classified it as 'hasan'. )

Imam Suyuti (Rh)says in his Haqiqat al-sunna wa al-bid`a:“As for the night of mid-Sha`ban, it has great merit and it is desirable (mustahabb) to spend part of it in supererogatory worship.” ( Ref: Suyuti, Haqiqat al-sunna wa al-bid`a aw al-amr bi al-ittiba` wa al-nahi `an al-ibtida` (1405/1985 ed.) p. 58. He adds: "However, this must be done alone, not in congregation.")

Five letters of the word Sha’abaan and what they mean

The leader of all saints, Hadhrat Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilani (May Allah sanctify his soul) says
about the secret meanings hidden in the word “Sha’abaan”:
There are five letters in the word “Sha’abaan” (i.e. in the Arabic word):
The Arabic “Sheen,” which stands “Sharaf” i.e. honor.
“’Ain,” which stands for “’Ulu” i.e. elevation.
“Ba” which stands for “birr” i.e. virtuousness.
“Alif” which stands for “Ulfat” i.e. love
“Noon” which stands for “Noor” i.e. radiance, light.

These letters indicate that in the month of Sha’abaan, the worshippers of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) are granted these bounties by Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala).

Hadhrat Ghouse Azam Dastagir (May Allah be well pleased with him) points out the temporary nature of this world and the changing of times and says about the importance of the month of Sha’abaan in these words:
Life has 3 states:
The past state, the present state and the future state.
In the same way, there are 3 months: Rajab, which has passed and will not return and
Ramadhan, which we are waiting for. We do not know whether we will be alive to get it
or not and Sha’abaan is the link between these 2 months.
We should consider obedience to Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) as a respipte (Ghaneemat)
(Ghuniya Lit talibi tariqil haqqi, Vol. 1, Pg No: 188)

Sha’abaan is the month of Durud:

The verse of Durud was revealed in this month and the command for Durud was given to us, so for this reason we are asked to send a lot of Durud on the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) in this month. As given in Ghuniya Lit talibi  tariqil haqqi, Vol. 1, Pg No:188:

The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) would fast for the whole of Sha’abaan. When I asked Him, He (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) writes (the names of) all those who would die in this year in this night. I desire that My time of passing away should be when I am fasting. The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam) said: This is that month between Rajab and Ramadhan, which people do not think about and this is the month in which deeds (a’amaal) are presented before Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala), so I want that I should be fasting and My deeds should be presented before Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala).(Sunan Nasai, Vol. 1, Pg No: 321. Hadith No: 2317, Musnad Imam Ahmed, Musnad UlAnsaar, Hadith No: 20758)

All good is from Allah Ta’ala whereas mistakes are from this humble speck. May Allah Ta’ala Bless all readers, bringing you all closer to Him and His Rasul SallAllahu alaihi wasallam. May He accept our humble efforts and grant us the capacity to be good and do good. Ameen.

“Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani powers over the souls of this disciples extend beyond the grave.

“Shaykh ‘Abd al-Qadir al-Jilani powers over the souls of this disciples extend beyond the grave.

One day in Baghdad a man informed him that his deceased father appeared to him in a dream, and informed him he was being tortured in his grave..., and therefore the son should appeal to the venerable Ghawth al-Adham to intercede for his soul. The man approached the venerable Ghawth al-Adham and informed him his father was suffering from the punishment of the grave, and appealed to him to intercede on his behalf. The venerable Ghawth al-Adham asked the visitor, “Did your father ever visit my Madrassah?” Yes he answered. The venerable Ghawth then remained silent for some time and referred no further on the matter. A few days later, the man returned to the venerable Ghawth al-Adham saying that his father appeared again to him in a dream, this time, he was wearing a green robe, and informed him his punishment has been lifted due to the venerable Ghawth al-Adham‘s intercession”

Hadees e Noor : Haqiqat al Muhammadiyyah

Assalamualikum
Meelad al Nabi (alaihissalam mubarak)

Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has stated in the Hadith, “Awwalu ma Khalaq Allahu Noori,” i.e. the first thing Allah created was my Noor. [Madaarijun Nubuwwah, Vol 2]

It is stated in the Holy Qur’an, “No one is associated to Him, so I have been commanded and I am the first Muslim.” [Surah 6, Verse 163] The Sahaabah asked Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) to explain the phrase “I am the first Muslim” in this verse, as Hazrat Adam (Alaihis Salaam) and the other Prophets up to Hazrat Isa (Alaihis Salaam) were born on earth before him, and all these Prophets were Muslims i.e. they surrendered to the will of Allah, so how could Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) be the first Muslim? It was then that Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) explained that Allah Ta’ala had created him as Noor-e-Muhammadi out of Himself many thousands of astronomical years before Allah Ta’ala decided to create the universe. Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) has also stated, “I am the first Prophet to be created and the last one to be sent.”

Hazrat Abu Hurairah (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) has narrated: “The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) once asked Hazrat Jibraeel (Alaihis Salaam): “How old are you?” Hazrat Jibra’eel (Alaihis Salaam) replied, “I don’t have much recollection about the exact age. However, I do remember seeing a star in the fourth Hijab (veil) of Honour. That star would appear once every seventy thousand years, and I have seen the star seventy two thousand times.” Upon hearing this, the Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied: “I swear by the Honour of my Allah Jalla Jalaaluhu that star was me.” [Tarikh-ul-Kabir; Tafseer Roohul Bayan]

Allah Ta’ala could very well have created the universe by ordering “Be!” [Surah 3, Verse 59], but to honour His beloved Noor-e-Muhammadi, He decided to create the entire universe through this medium and bless everything thus created for the sake of His beloved. In a Hadith-e-Qudsi Allah Ta’ala has stated, “If I had not created you (O Muhammad), I would not have created anything.” Accordingly, Allah Ta’ala started devising out of Noor-e-Muhammadi each and every one of the angels, the countless galaxies throughout the universe and all that is therein. Thus He honoured His beloved. Nothing that was created by Allah Ta’ala was out of anything else.

Wo Jo Na The Tho Kuch Na Tha
Wo Jo Na Ho Tho Kuch Na Ho
Jaan He Wo Jahan Ki
Jaan He Tho Jahan He

When he (Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) did not exist then nothing existed
If he was not created then nothing would have been created
He is the life of the world
He is alive therefore the world exists

Hazrat Jabir bin Abdullah Ansari (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) reports: I asked, “Ya Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) may my father and mother be sacrificed upon thee! Tell me, what was that which the Almighty Allah created before anything else?” The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) replied:

“O Jabir, verily Allah first created my Noor (Light) from His Noor before He created anything else. This Noor stayed in obedience according to the Will of Allah. At that time, there was neither the Lawh (Divine Tablet) nor the Qalam (Pen), neither heaven nor hell, and neither any angel, earth, skies, sun, moon, jinn or human beings. When Allah wished to create something, He divided that Noor into four parts. From one part He created the Qalam (Pen), from the second, the Lawh (Divine Tablet) and from the third, He made the Arsh (Throne).

He divided the fourth part into a further four parts. From the first He created those Angels who carry the Arsh, from the second the Kursi (Divine Chair), and from the third, He created the rest of the Angels.

He again divided the remaining parts into a further four parts. From the first He created the skies, from the second He created the planets and from the third He created heaven and hell.

Once again, He divided the fourth part into a further four parts. From the first part He created the Noor with which the believer (Mu’min) sees. From the second, He created in the hearts of the Believers the Noor of Ma’rifat (spiritual realisation). From the third, He created a Noor in the tongues of the Believers to recite the Kalima-e-Shahaadat, Laa Ilaaha Illallah Muhammadur Rasoolullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. (And from the fourth part everything else was created).” [Dalaa'il-un-Nubuwwah; Muwaahibul Laduniya; Ibne Majah]

Since all created beings and objects have come out of the same single source, it is but natural that all creation can reach their goal only through this source i.e. Noor-e-Muhammadi. Therefore Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), who is the most sublime and exalted of all that has been created, is the medium through which every person would reach his Creator.

Imam Fakhruddin Raazi (Radiallahu Ta’ala Anh) writes in Tafseer-e-Kabeer that when Hazrat Adam (Alaihis Salaam) was created, the angels were ordered to prostrate to him for the reason that the Noor-e-Muhammadi was in Hazrat Adam’s (Alaihis Salaam) forehead. Iblees could not see the light and boasted why he should prostrate to a human. As a result of this he became shaitaan, the accursed. The angels saw the light and they all prostrated.

Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) is supreme with regard to dignity and rank amongst all creation. He is the Noor which guides the entire creation to Almighty Allah. It is clearly evident how unique the position of our Beloved Aaqa Muhammad Mustafa (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam), the Mahboob of the Almighty Creator is, in whose honour the entire universe has been created. His reality is thus known only to his Creator, Almighty Allah.

All Praise be to Allah that through His creation of Noor-e-Muhammadi not only we human beings, but all other creation came into existence and that through His Infinite Mercy He made us the Ummatis of His Mahboob, the light of existence, Hazrat Muhammad Mustafa (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam). May we die as the slaves of Rasoolullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) and may we rise on the day of Qiyaamah amongst the Aashiqe Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam),

Dostane ILAHI (Awliyaallah) se Mohabbat

In Roman urdu: Hazarah Anas Radiallahu taala anh se riwayat hai ke Aek shaks ne RASOOLALLAH alaihissalam se poocha ke Qayamat kab Aayegi? Aap alaihissalam ne farmaya , tune uske liye kya samaan muhiyya kiya hai? Usne kaha kuchbhi nahin albataa main ALLAH TABARAK VA TAALA AUR RASOOLALLAH ALAIHISSALM se MOHABBAT rakhtahun. Aap alaihissalm ne farmaya bas TU QAYAMAT KE DIN UNHI KE SAATH HOGA JIN SE MOHABBAT RAKHTA HAI. Hazarath Anas radiallahu taala anh ka bayan hai ke Hum kisi baat se itna khuhsh nahin huye jis qadar Rasoolullah alaihissalam ke is Farmaan se khush huye ke "JISKO TU MAHBOOB RAKHTA HAI UNHIN KE SAATH HOGA". Hazarath Anas radiallahu taala anh kehte hain ke main to Rasoolallah alaihissalam , Hazarath Abubakr aur Hazarat Umar radiallahu taala anhum ajmaeen ko dost rakhtahun. Mujhe ummed hai ke is mohabbat ki wajah se main unke saath hounga agarche main ne unke jaise amal nahin kiye hain. (Bukharisahih:3688, Muslim:6715, Tirmidi:2385, majmua al oust:13189)

In English: Narrated Anas radiallahu taala anh : A man asked the Prophet alaihissalam about the Hour (i.e. Day of Judgment) saying, "When will the Hour be?" The Prophet alaihissalam said, "What have you prepared for it?" The man said, "Nothing, except that I love Allah and His Apostle." The Prophet alaihissalam said, "You will be with those whom you love." We had never been so glad as we were on hearing that saying of the Prophet (i.e., "You will be with those whom you love.") Therefore, I love the Prophet, Abu Bakr and 'Umar, and I hope that I will be with them because of my love for them though my deeds are not similar to theirs. (Bukharisahih:3688, Muslim:6715, Tirmidi:2385, majmua al oust:13189)

Virtues os Sayyed-us-Shuahada Imam Hussain Radiallahu taala anh

Khawaja Muinuddin Chisty’s (radiallahu taala anh) powerful verses epitomise the reverence and devotion of Muslims towards Imam Hussain radiallahu taala anh:

Shah ast Hussain, Badshah ast Hussain
Deen ast Hussain, Deen Panah ast Hussain
Sardad na dad dast, dar dast-e-yazeed,
Haqaa key binaey La ila ast Hussain

Translation: (Ruler is Hussain, Emperor is Hussain,
Faith is Hussain , guardian of faith is Hussain .
Offered his head and not the hand to Yazid.
Truly, the mirror of faith is Hussain)

Shaykh Jami Radiallahu taala anh writes that the Messenger of Allah Hazarat Mohammad alaihissalam was one day seated with Sayyiduna Imam Hussain Radiallahu taala anh on his right and his son Sayyiduna Ibrahim Radiallahu taala anh on his left.

Sayyiduna Jibril alaihissalam descended and said to the beloved of Allah Hazarat Mohammad alaihissalam that the Lord Allah subhana va taala would not allow bith of these children to remain with the Messenger of Allah Hazarat Mohammad alaihissalam as one of them would have to mreturn to the Lord Lord Allah subhana va taala. It was now the beloved of Allah Hazarat Mohammad alaihissalam’s choice as to which one of these two beloved childrenwould remain on earth and whichone would return to Allah subhana va taala the Allmighty.

The Messenger of Allah Hazarat Mohammad alaihissalam stated that if Imam Hussain Radiallahu taala anh was to depart from this world, Sayyidah Fatimah Radiallahu taala anha, sayyiduna Imam Ali radiallahu taala anh as well as the Messenger of Allah alaihissalam would be aggrieved.

If Sayyiduna Ibrahim alaissalam departed, most of the grief woud be felt by the best of the creation Messenger of Allah Hazarat Mohammad alaihissalam and therefore, Messenger of Allah Hazarat Mohammad alaihissalam  explained how he desired to bear all the sorrow rather than witness his beloved daughter ans son inlaw radiallahu taala anhum pained by the death of their beloved son.

Three days after the Messenger of Allah Hazarat Mohammad alaihissalamhad made this magnificient choice, Sayyiduna Ibrahim alaihissalam passed away.

After this event , whenever  Sayyiduna Imam Hussain Radiallahu taala anh would come to beloved Prophet alaihissalam, Prophet alaihissalm would kiss theforehead of Imam Hussain radiallau taala anh and welcome him.  Addressing the people (sahaba), the Prophet alaihissalam would say that he had sacrificed his son Ibrahim alaihissalam for the sake Imam Hussain salamullah alaih.

Mother of the Believers Hadrat Sayyidah Khadija Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anha

She was a rich widow and ran a large trade of her own. It was she who offered herself in marriage to the Holy Prophet Muhammad SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam who was associated with her in her trading ventures. From the time of her marriage with the Holy Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam till her death, over a period of twenty years, she gave her husband ease of circumstances, and deep love and devotion.

In spite of conspicuous difference in age, Sayyiduna Rasoolullah's SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam love for Sayyidah Khadija Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha never wavered. When death parted her from the Beloved Nabi SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam after having shared with him for 28 years the toils and trials of life, especially the first ten years of his Ministry of Prophethood, he deeply mourned her death. Once Sayyidah Ayesha Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha asked him if she had been the only woman worthy of his love. Sayyiduna Rasoolullah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam replied in an honest burst of tender emotion:

"She believed in me when none else did. She embraced Islam when people disbelieved me. And she helped and comforted me when there was none else to lend me a helping hand."

In the heart of the Holy Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam grateful and affectionate remembrance of her remained fresh until the very end of his life. The Holy Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam remained true and loyal to Sayyidah Khadija Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha until he was over 50 years old. This had been the case at a time when polygamy was normal among the Arabs. Moreover, since no male offspring of Sayyidah Khadija Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha survived, he had all the necessary justification to marry another woman considering that newborn daughters were customarily buried alive and male offspring alone regarded as rightful heirs.

Before Sayyiduna Rasoolullah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam announced his Prophethood he had lived 17 years of married life, and thereafter eleven more years without ever thinking of marriage with another woman. He was kind to all her fellows and occasionally sent them gifts.

"Never was I jealous of any of the Prophet's wives", said Sayyidah Ayesha Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha, "but Khadija, although I never saw her. Her sweet memory never blurred in the Prophet's SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam heart. Once I hurt his feelings on this issue and he replied gravely, 'Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala has blessed me with her love.'"

Sayyiduna Khadija Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha bore the Beloved Habeeb SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam seven children, the first born was named Sayyiduna Qaasim Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho, after whom, according to Arab custom, the Holy Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam received the Kunya "Abul Qaasim" or "the father of Qaasim". Then were born Sayyiduna Tayyab Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha and Sayyiduna Taahir Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anhum Ajmaa'een. All of them passed away in their infancy. Amongst the daughters Sayyidah Ruqayya Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha was the eldest, then came Sayyidah Zaynab Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha, Sayyidah Umm Kulthoom Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha and the last and best known of them was Sayyidah Faatima Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Ja'far Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha reported that he heard Sayyiduna Ali Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anho saying in Kufa that Allah's Messenger SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam said:

"The best of the women of her time was Mariam Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha, daughter of Imran, and the best of the women of her time was Khadija Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha, daughter of Khuwailid. Abu Kuraib said that Waki' pointed towards the sky and the earth. What this implies is that Mariam Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha and Khadija Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha were best in their respective times not only amongst the creatures of the earth, but of the heaven too."

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayra Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha reported that Sayyiduna Jibra'eel Alaihis Salam came to Allah's Messenger SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam and said:

"Allah's Messenger! Khadija is coming to you with a vessel of seasoned food or drink. When she comes to you, offer her greetings from her Lord, the Exalted and Glorious, and on my behalf and give her glad tidings of a palace of jewels in Paradise wherein there is no noise and no toil".

This Hadith has been narrated on the authority of Abu Hurayra Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha through another chain of transmitters with a slight variation of wordings.

Sayyidah Ayesha Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha reported that Allah's Apostle SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam gave glad tidings to Sayyidah Khadija bint Khuwailid Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha of a palace in Paradise. Sayyidah Ayesha Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha further reported:

"Never did I feel jealous of any woman, as I was jealous of Khadija Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha. She had died three years before the Holy Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam married me. I often heard him praise her, and his Lord, the Exalted and Gracious, had commanded him to give her the glad tidings of a palace of jewels in Paradise, and whenever he slaughtered a sheep he presented its meat to her female companions".

In another Hadith, Sayyidah Ayesha Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha added:

"I annoyed him one day and said, 'It is Khadija Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha only who always prevails upon your mind'. Thereupon, Allah's Messenger SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam said, 'Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala Himself had nurtured Her love in my heart.'"

Sayyidah Ayesha Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha reported that Allah's Messenger SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam did not marry any other woman till Sayyidah Khadija's Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha death. The point is why did Allah's Messenger SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam not marry during the lifetime of Sayyidah Khadija Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha but, after her sad demise, he married several wives. The fact is that the Holy Prophet of Islam SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam married all his wives from the point of view of religious necessity.

At the age of twenty-five, he married Sayyidah Khadija Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anha who was forty and she remained with him for the quarter of a century as a great source of strength and consolation to him. During this period the Holy Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam was busy in instilling in the minds of the people the fundamentals of faith, Oneness of Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala, Apostlehood of Muhammad SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam, life after death. He did not feel the necessity of marrying another lady because it was only in the matter of faith and belief that he had to strive hard with mankind.

After his migration to Madinatul Munawwara when the Islamic society was established and the Muslims were required to conform their personal and social behaviour to the teaching of Islam, revelations for practical guidance in all walks of life came from Almighty Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala. This had to be explained in various places and in different spheres by the life examples of the Holy Prophet SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam. There was not one problem but numerous problems and most of them were social which needed solutions at every step. Thus, it was felt that a group of women should be trained in Islamic ideals and it was done through the wives of Sayyiduna Rasoolullah SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam. It was not an ordinary work, but an important task of vast magnitude, which required the sweat, and labour of so many pious souls and these were the noble wives of the Holy Prophet of Islam SallAllaho Alaihi wa Sallam.

1. Hadrat Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) has said,

إذا دخل رمضان فتحت أبواب السماء (وفي رواية) فتحت أبواب الجنة وغلقت أبواب النار وسلسلت الشياطين (وفي رواية) فتحت أبواب الرحمة
“When Ramadan begins, the doors of heaven are opened.” A version has, “the doors of Paradise are opened and the doors of Hell are closed, and the Satans are tied with chains.” Another version has, “the doors of Mercy are opened.” [Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 1, Page 255 and Sahih al-Muslim, Vol. 1, Page 346]

Hadrat Shaykh ‘Abd al-Haq Muhaddith-e-Dehlwi Alaihir raHmah comments:

The meaning of the “Doors of heaven” being opened is the continuous descending of mercy, and the ascension of good deeds to the Court of the Almighty without any obstacle (preventing it from ascending). It also means the acceptance of (permissible) supplications. The meaning of the “doors of Paradise” being opened is being encouraged and granted the ability to perform good deeds, and the acceptance of these good deeds. The meaning of the “doors of Hell” being closed is the protection of the souls of those who fast, from things which have been forbidden by the Islamic Law, and rescue from the things which provoke a person on doing bad deeds. It also means to break the desire which the heart has of things of lust. The meaning of Satan being tied with chains is the sealing off of all the ways by which evil whispers enter the mind. [Ashi’ah al-Lam’at]

2. Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah (
SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam)  has said,

“Whoever fasts during Ramadan with faith and seeking his reward (from AllahSubHanuhu wa Ta'ala) all his past sins will be forgiven. Whoever prays during the night in Ramadan with faith seeking his reward (from Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala) all his past sins will be forgiven. And whoever passes Lailat-ul-Qadr in prayer with faith and seeking his reward (from Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala) all his past sins will be forgiven.” [Sahih al-Bukhari Vol. 1, Page 255 and Sahih al-Muslim, Vol. 1, Page 259]

3. Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah(
SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) has said,

“When the first night of Ramadan comes, the satans and the rebellious Jinn are chained, the doors of hell are closed and not one of them is opened (during the entire the month of Ramadan); the doors of Paradise are opened and none of them are closed (for the entire month of Ramadan); and a crier calls, ‘Those who desire what is good, come forward, and those who desire evil refrain from it’, and many people are freed from Hell by Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala, and that happens every night.” [Tirmidhi, Vol. 1, Page 153 and Ibn Maajah, Vol. 1, Page 118]

4. Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah (
SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) has said,

“Ramadan, a blessed month, has come to you during which Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala has made it obligatory for you to fast. In it the doors of Heaven are opened, the doors of Hell are closed, and the rebellious satans are chained. In it there is a night (worshiping in it) which is better than (worshiping for) a thousand months. Whoever is deprived of its good (and blessing) has indeed been deprived of all good.” [Nasa’i, Vol. 1, Page 299 and Mishkat, Vol. 1, Page 173]

5. Hadrat Salman al-Farisi Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that on the last day of Sha’ban the Messenger of Allah (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) delivered a sermon. He (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) said,
“O people, a great month, a blessed month, a month wherein there is a night which is better than a thousand months has come to you. Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala has made the observance of fasting during it as obligatory, and the standing (in prayer) in its nights as voluntary. Whoever draws near to Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala during it with some good (voluntary, optional) act he is like the one who fulfils an obligatory duty in another month, and whoever fulfils an obligatory duty in it is like the one who fulfils seventy obligatory duties in another month. It is the month of endurance and the reward of endurance is Paradise. It is the month of sharing with others, and a month in which the believer’s provision is increased. Whoever gives one who has been fasting something with which to break his fast it shall result in the forgiveness of his sins and it shall save him from Hell, and he will have a reward equal to his without his reward being diminished in any respect.”

We said,

يا رسول الله ، ليس كلنا يجد ما يفطر الصائم
“O Messenger of Allah (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam), none from among us has the means to give one who is fasting something with which to break his fast.

He said,

“Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala gives this reward to him who gives one who is fasting some milk, or a date, or a drink of water with which to break his fast; and whoever gives a full meal to one who is fasting Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala will give him the drink from my Pond (fountain – Kauthar) and he will not feel the thirst till he enters Paradise. It is a month whose beginning is Mercy, whose middle is Forgiveness, and whose end is Freedom from Hell. Whoever makes things easy for his slave during it, Allah will forgive him and free him from Hell.” [Shau'ab al-Imam lil Bayhaqi, Vol. 8, Page 120 and Mishkat, Page 173]
6. Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) has said,
أنه يغفر لأمته في آخر ليلة من رمضان ، قيل : يا رسول الله أهي ليلة القدر ؟ قال : لا ، ولكن العامل إنما يوفى أجره إذا قضى عمله
“My Ummah is granted forgiveness in the last night of Ramadan. It was asked, “O Messenger of Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala, is it Lailatul Qadr?” He said, “No, but a workman (slave of Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala) is paid wages in full when he finishes work.” [Musnad Imam Ahmad, Vol. 2, Page 567]

7. Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah(
SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) has said,
من ذرعه القىء فليس عليه قضاء ومن استقاء عمدا فليقض
“It is not necessary to fast again (do qaza) for a person who naturally vomited. Those who vomit on purpose, then it is necessary on them to fast again.” [Tirmidhi, Vol. 1, Page 153 and Sunan Abi Dawud, Vol. 1, Page 324]

8. Hadrat Abu Hurairah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah (
SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) has said,
من لم يدع قول الزور والعمل به فليس لله حاجة فى أن يدع طعامه وشرابه
“If one (who is fasting) does not give up falsehood and action according to it, AllahSubHanuhu wa Ta'ala has no need that he should give up his food and his drink.” [Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 1, Page 255]

Shaykh ‘Abd Al-Haq Muhaddith-e-Dehlwi Alaihir raHmah comments:
This means that his fast shall not be accepted, as the main purpose of fast being made obligatory on a Muslim is not that one stays hungry and thirsty; but in fact the main purpose is to break the desire for lust, and to cool the fire of selfishness, so that the soul instead of being inclined towards the desires of lust, it becomes obedient towards the commands of The Almighty. [Ashi’ah al-Lam’at, Vol. 2, Page 85]
9. Hadrat Salmah ibn Muhabbaq Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anha reported that the Messenger of Allah (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) has said,
من كانت له حمولة تأوى إلى شبع فليصم رمضان حيث أدركه
“Whoever has a riding animal (conveyance) which carries him to where he can get sufficient food, he should observe the fast of Ramadan wherever he is, when it comes.”[Sunan Abi Dawud, Vol. 1, Page 327]

10. Hadrat Anas ibn Malik al-Ka’bi Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah (
SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) has said,
إن الله تعالى وضع عن المسافر شطر الصلاة والصوم عن المسافر وعن المرضع أو الحبلى
“Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala has remitted half the prayer to the traveller ; and fasting to the traveller, the woman who is suckling an infant and the woman who is pregnant.”[Tirmidhi, Vol. 1, Page 152 and Sunan Abi Dawud, Vol. 1, Page 327]

Hadrat Shaykh ‘Abd al-Haq Muhaddith-e-Dehlwi Alaihir raHmah comments:

The Islamic Law allowing the omission of fast for the breast-feeding and the pregnant woman is only in the situation when fasting shall harm or damage herself or the child (otherwise there is no permission not to fast). [Ashi’ah al-Lam’ah, Vol. 2 Page 94]

11. Hadrat Abu Ayyub al-Ansari Radi ALLAHu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah (
SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) has said,
من صام رمضان ثم أتبعه ستا من شوال كان كصيام الدهر
“Whoever fasts during Ramadan then follows it with six days in Shawwal, it will be like a perpetual fast .” [Sahih al-Muslim, Vol. 1, Page 369]

12. Hadrat Abu Qatada Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah (
SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) has said,
صيام يوم عرفة أحتسب على الله أن يكفر السنة التى قبله والسنة التى بعده
“I seek from Allah SubHanuhu wa Ta'ala that fasting on the day of ‘Arafah may atone for the sins of the preceding and the coming year.” [Sahih al-Muslim, Vol. 1, Page 367]

It is disliked for a Haji, who is in the plain of ‘Arafah on the 9th of Dhul Hijjah, to fast on that day [so that he can perform worship and engage himself in the remembrance of Allah to his maximum).

13. Hadrat Hafsah Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anha reported,

أربع لم يكن يدعهن النبى -صلى الله عليه وسلم- صيام عاشوراء والعشر وثلاثة أيام من كل شهر وركعتين قبل الفجر
“There were four things which the Holy Prophet (SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) never omitted: fasting on ‘Ashurah (10th of Muharram), the first nine days of Dhul-Hijjah and three days (13th, 14th and 15th) every (Islamic) month and praying two rak’ats before the Fard prayers of Fajr.” [Nasa’i, Vol. 1, Page 328]

14. Hadrat Abu Dhar Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah (
SallAllahu Alaihi wa Sallam) has said,
يا أبا ذر إذا صمت من الشهر ثلاثة أيام فصم ثلاث عشرة وأربع عشرة وخمس عشرة
“O Abu Dhar (Radi Allahu Ta'ala Anhu)! When you intend to fast three days in a month, fast on the thirteenth, fourteenth and the fifteenth.” [Nasa’i, Vol. 1, Page 328 and Tirmidhi, Vol. 1, Page 159]
