The awakening

All night, a man called “Allah”
Until his lips were bleeding.
Then the Devil said, “Hey! Mr Gullible!
How comes you’ve been calling all night
And never once heard Allah say, “Here, I am”?

You call out so earnestly and, in reply, what?
I’ll tell you what. Nothing!”
The man suddenly felt empty and abandoned.
Depressed, he threw himself on the ground
And fell into a deep sleep.
In a dream, he met Abraham, who asked,
“Why are you regretting praising Allah?”
The man said, “ I called and called
But Allah never replied, “Here I am.”

Abraham explained, “Allah has said,
“Your calling my name is My reply.
Your longing for Me is My message to you.
All your attempts to reach Me
Are in reality My attempts to reach you.
Your fear and love are a noose to catch Me.
In the silence surrounding every call of “Allah”
Waits a thousand replies of “Here I am.”

Nashan shareef 2010

As Salaamu Alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakaatuhu

All Praise is due to Allah Jalla Jalaalahu, abundant and countless of Durood and Salaams upon the beloved and most Noblest of Messengers, Hadrat Muhammad Mustapha Sallal laahu Alaihi Wa Sallam as long as days and nights remain.
Assalatu vassalamu alaika ya Abdul Gaffar sha kha dri radiallahu taala anh
Assalatu vassalamu alaika ya Dastagir sha kha dri radiallahu taala anh
Assalatu vassalamu alaika ya Moulana Khader mohiuddin  sha kha dri radiallahu taala anh

Urs-e-Shareef 2010 of DARGA-E-GAFFARIA was held with atmost respect and spirituality with the blessings of HIS HOLINESS Sufi saint ALHAJ SYEDI AL SHAIK ZAHIRUDDIN SHA KHA DRI hifzullahi taala and Alhamdulillah it was a grand success.

Nashaan shareef was held on 29/3/2010.

As a part of URS preparation, Darga shareef, Sama khana, Sandal ghar, Present residence, stage and in and around Darga shareef were beautifully decorated, lighted with colour lights.

On Monday After namaaz-e-Asar, All disciples and devotees assembled at SANDAL GHAR, OR SANDAL HOUSE OR GANDHAM ILLU famously known in the local language.

SANDAL GHAR is the original house where his HOLINESS SYEDI ALSHAIK DASTAGIR SHA KHA DRI RADIALLAHU TAALA ANH used to live in, where his HOLINESS SYEDI AL SHAIK GAFFAR SHA KHA DRI RADIALLAHU TAALA ANH arrived first. It is this sacred place where HIS HOLINESS SYEDI ALSHAIK DASTAGIR SHA KHA DRI RADIALLAHU TAALA ANH served his master HIS HOLINESS SYEDI ALSHAIK ABDUL GAFFAR SHA KHA DRI RADIALLAHU TAALA ANH and was blessed.

Nashaan shareef procession started from sandal ghar, wherein KHALIFAS of   HIS HOLINESS Sufi saint SYEDI AL SHAIK ZAHIRUDDIN SHA KHA DRI hifzullahi taala were present with their traditional dresses and GREEN AMAMA SHAREEF, AASA SHAREEF, and floral garlands. Nashaan shareef (A FLAG) of around 25 feet , from the period of HIS HOLINESS SYEDI ALSHAIK DASTAGIR SHA KHA DRI  RADIALLAHU TAALA ANH was highlight of Nashan shareef procession. During the procession FAKIRS OF RAFAI ORDER took part and were singing NAAT SHAREEF, Manqabat in praise of sufi saints tareeqa and sufi saints.

Lot of people participated in the procession. Finally NASHAAN SHAREEF reached DARGA SHRINE at the time of magrib. Later after having fateha  in Darga, FLAG was hoisted on SAMAKHANA (AFTER the construction of shrine HIS HOLINESS SYEDI ALSHAIK DASTAGIR SHA KHA DRI  RADIALLAHU TAALA ANH shifted to this house where HIS HOLINESS SYEDI AL SHAIK MOULANA MOULVI KHADER MOHIUDDIN SHA KHA DRI RADIALLAHU TAALA ANH spent his whole life).

Later another flag was hoisted on the present residence of HIS HOLINESS Sufi saint ALHAJ SYEDI AL SHAIK ZAHIRUDDIN SHA KHA DRI hifzullahi taala adjacent to the shrine. With the hoisting of flag It is declared as URS begun.

Sandal shareef 2010

Sandal shareef was held on 30/3/2010.
Sandal shareef prepeartion started from the night of Nashaan shareef. On moday night around 1pm Dastagir saheb and moulana saheb along with few selective desciples entered the Darga, later it was locked from inside. With atmost respect inner darga was cleaned. Much is not disclosed about as it was kept secret. After this GADDENASHEEN was spread on, in SAME KHANA, where he khalifas were seated and had Fateha on their spiritual lineage after KHATME QURAAN shareef.

Later in the afternoon khalifas Inaugurated DAAWATE-AAM by performing fateha on the food.
On Tuesday evening after Namaaz-e-Ishan, another KHATME-QURAAN shareef was done in the present residence of HIS HOLINESS ALHAJ Sufi saint SYEDI AL SHAIK ZAHIRUDDIN SHA KHA DRI hifzullahi.

Later in the night around 11pm sahebs moved to sandal ghar, wherein Sandal shareef was prepared and Fateha , darood was practiced.

All the khalifas participated in the event, but every participant missed HIS HOLINESS ALHAJ Sufi saint SYEDI AL SHAIK ZAHIRUDDIN SHA KHA DRI hifzullahi taala, as he could not make to the procession. Khalifas wore their traditional dresses  and GREEN AMAMA SHAREEF, AASA SHAREEF, and floral garlands. Major desciples and Faqirs  also wore garlands. The sandal procession  of DARGA-E-GAFFARIA is famously know for it purity and respect.

By the time the procession started it is almost half past 12 am. Lot of people gathered in the procession, and gaffaria youth played a major role in maintaining the crowd. Amidst the faqirs Sufiana kalam and Dhaptis, fireworks, with spiritual chantings procession started with atmost dignity and respect.
Sandal shareef was carried in 2 silver pots on the heads of 2 dignified selective disciples. They were seated in CHANDINI vehicle, which was well decorated.

Infront of Chandini vehicle there was another chandini dera where CHADARS, ITR, ROSEWATER were carried. Infront of this section Khalifas were present, on either side with peackcoks fins. Infront of Khalifas on bothsides Faqirs were present followed by the desciples, devotees and general people. Indeed words fall short to explain the julus. It was a treat to eyes for some, a treat to heart for some, a treat to soul for some.
For some it was like a spiritual journey culminatining at Darga, which I cannot explain here. However it was as if a spiritual travel from the naaf (ambelical spot) to heart or to above stations.

When the procession reached chauk (town centre), The faqirs Acts of Zarb were highlight of the procession. Where they performed unbelievable acts with the blessings and permission of Khalifa with the help of swords, Sharp needles and some other instruments which I am unable to name. However large number of Gaffariya youth also participated in this ZARB event. This Zarb event by faqirs directly or indirectly influenced the people in their aqeeda on Allmighty Allah subhana va taala , which was a part of journey. All along the procession people were chanting Darood-e-shareef and were sending salams on the Purpose of creation Prohet MUHAMMED alaihissalam.

Later the procession reached Darga centre, wonderful and spectacular display of fireworks was witnessed followed by tasha men.
Finally the julus reached DARGA shareef around 2:30 am. Aastana salaam was followed by Faqirs salaam followed by Fateha and Aesale thawab of Quran shareef. After fateha, chadar poshi, gulposhi, itr and rose water sprinkling were performed. Finally Sandal poshi was practiced by khalifa followed by faqirs and later by the people. All the people who took part in the sandal julus were happy as major people took part in sandal poshi.

As the call for fajar prayer was given, Khalifa stopped the sandal poshi , removed their traditional dresses in samakhana, offered fajr Namaaz. With this sandal shareef programme ended  through which the participants attained spiritual enlightment.
As it was around 6:30 am, Khalifas were served with coffee all along the inmates of SAMA KHANA joined them.

urus-e-shareef 2010

Urs-e-shareef was held on 31/3/2010.

On Wednesday early in the afternoon urs-e-shareef programme started.

It is a practice of Desciples who come to the shrine to cook food , sweets and perform Aesal thawab on Buzurgaane Darga-e-Gaffaria from the time  of where HIS HOLINESS SYEDI ALSHAIK DASTAGIR SHA KHA DRI RADIALLAHU TAALA ANH.  Almost all the devotes took part as the khalifas of HIS HOLINESS Sufi saint SYEDI AL SHAIK ZAHIRUDDIN SHA KHA DRI hifzullahi taala  participated in Aesale Thawab programme. DAAWATE-AAM was also held on URS day . This programme finished by 3 pm.

In the after noon, after Namaze ASR , Bulls from different places participated in a contest, where in their power was tested and owner of the best pair was awarded prize money. As major disciples of the shrine were farmers this event was held to make them happy.

By the evening, lot of people gathered in for URS. Uncontrollable people and traffic was out of control . All the trains and buses to the town were full. All the roads leading to Shrine were full. Inside the darga ground the situation is unexplainable. Full of people with almost no space left. But thanks to the Police department for  controlling the traffic by imposing traffic restrictions on urs and sandal days.
All political party leaders of the district made a point to visit the shrine and were all in praise of the unity and integrity of the desciples of the shrine known for.

As the sunset, as the time passed unbelievable number of people turned out for Qawwali.

QAWWALI:
This urs celebrations are also famously known for its qawwali.

Nizami brothers of Delhi and Saleem sabiri of Rajasthan took part in SAMA (qawwali) programme. Qawwali is conducted for 2 days i.e on Sandal day and on Urs day. However on sandal shareef day people throng alongwith sandal shareef, hence on URS day main attraction is SAMA programme.
The qawwals moved the hearts with beautiful rendering of kalam  on HAMD, NAAT ,MANQABAT  and SUFIANA KALAM.

Khalifas of HIS HOLINESS ALHAJ Sufi saint SYEDI AL SHAIK ZAHIRUDDIN SHA KHA DRI hifzullahi taala viz    SHA MOHAMMED DASTAGIR KHA DRI, SHA MOHAMMED KHADER MOHIUDDIN KHA DRI and others joined the sama around 12:45 am. While they were approaching the stage people were thronging to see them, to touch them thereby getting the blessings. Thanks to GAFFARIYA  YOUTH they formed human chains on both sides of Khalifas and escorted them to stage. Both qawwals took blessings of the Khalifas and witheir Ijaza started sama. Janab Saleem sabiri started the Natia sufiana kalam “MOHAMMED KE SHEHR MEIN” and was appreciated by the khalifas and people around. Later janab Nizami brothers beautifully rendered sufiana kalam “MERA PEER BADSHA HI ,GAFFAR BADSHA HI ,  ZAHIR BADSHA HI” captured all the hearts. Khalifas bestowed the qawwals with hadiya, the murideen , the common people, devotees all were  moved by the kalam. People were in to tears, wajd and almost all people felt a state of spiritual ascension. The presence of khalifas was a prime factor in the success of SAMA.

Later at around 4 am khalifas return back to the residence of present sajjada nasheen HIS HOLINESS Sufi saint SYEDI AL SHAIK ZAHIRUDDIN SHA KHA DRI hifzullahi taala.
Inshallah I shall try to include qawwali clips in the same post.
With this URS e shareef concluded.

Ziarat or tahleel 2010

Ziarat or tahleel was held on 1/4/2010:
This is the final day of URS celebrations.
At around 11am, Khalifas all along with the murideen started to sandal ghar , from there they participated in a procession with Small sandal bowl. This is infamously known as the day of Murideens, as Mureeds demonstrate  respective cultural and traditional activities. Some demonstrate LAKDI KA PHERA, some demonstrate actions of KUSHTI all along tashas, some do raks , and some dance out of sheer joy. All the devotees of all the ages  took part and they did not care the heat around 40degrees celcius. From some point it was also as if sun was also trying to witness the happenings of the procession, as all other processions tookpart in moon light.

Julus reached Darga shareef at around 1:50pm. Khalifas stood infront of the shrine. It seems as if they were looking for something. They were waiting for someone. Later same state was seen in murideen. They were all waitng for the sajjada nasheen HIS HOLINESS Sufi saint ALHAJ SYEDI AL SHAIK ZAHIRUDDIN SHA KHA DRI hifzullahi taala precence.
Finally the time has come, for which the khallifas were waitng
Parwanas were waiting, Deewanas  were waiting, Ishq ke mare were waitng
An i20 car arrived, suddenly a silence was felt around.
All eyes turned towards the vehicle
Khalifa Dastagir saheb was in to tears and moved near to the car alongwith the Khalifa moulana saheb.
As the front door of the car opened, Murideens joy was out of the world by the nazara.
The best of nazara in this world
The nazara for which eyes were striving, The nazara for which heart was striving
The nazara for which soul was striving
The shama of parvanas, Ishq ke maaron ka manzile ishq, Becharon ka chaara,
Gam ke maaron ka gamkhwar, Baqshish ka saama, kishti e nooh, Salaar e khafila,
Imamul AARIFEEN val muttaqeen
HIS HOLINESS Sufi saint ALHAJ SYEDI AL SHAIK ZAHIRUDDIN SHA KHA DRI hifzullahi taala ka nazaara
“SHAMA KO PARWANA, BUL BUL KO PHOOL  BAS
BU BAKR KE LIYE ALLAH KA RASOOL  BAS (Allama iqbal)
HUM AASHIQON KE LIYE ZAHIR PIA KA EK NAZARA  BAS”

Bekhud kiye dete hain  Andaaze hijaabana
AA dil mein tujhe rakhlun, aey jalwae jaanaana

Jee chahta hai tohfe mein bhejun unhen Aankhen
Darshan ka to darshan ho,  Nazrane ka nazrana

Sange dare jaana par karta hun jabeen saayee
Sajda na samajh najdi , sar deta hun nazraana

Itna to karam karna , Aey nazre kareemaana
Jab jaan labon par ho, tum saamne aajaana  (Kalaame BEDAM warsi)

When the sufi saint entered sahan of darga murideen started crying, doing raks, some were in state of wajd. All tried to have paabosi, but understanding the uncontrollable situation gaffaria youth formed human chain around the sufi saint and avoided people. Khalifa moulana saheb took of his garland and with the flowers of the garland he welcomed or to say escorted sufi saint in to darga by placing the flowers under his holy feet.
All the khalifas Dastagir saheb, Moulana saheb, Ghousepak saheb, Zia saheb, Sarfaraz saheb, Ismail saheb and kids of his gharana viz faizan and fayaz entered the shrine all along the side of sufi saint. Sufi saint performed Fateha and Aesale thawab on the buzurgaane deen of DARGA E GAFFARIA, and later presented sandal shareef.
HIS HOLINESS ALHAJ Sufi saint SYEDI AL SHAIK ZAHIRUDDIN SHA KHA DRI hifzullahi taala gave izaja to Dastagir saheb to distribute the sandal shareef to devotees, while the khalifa was distributing sandal shareef the sufi saint moved to sama khana, there he offered Fateha on Dadima and Ammajaan. Later he was fecilitated on GADDENASHEEN for a short while. After blessing the people he moved back to his residence. Until the sufi saint was there in the Darga premises, unexplainable spiritual change experienced.
After the distribution of Sandal shareef Khalifa Dastagir saheb sat on GADDI and ordered devotees to bring the tabarruk to be distributed. Later the khalifa distributed the Tabarruk by calling the names of the sufi saints in darga and present sajjada nasheen and khalifas .
Later the khalifa called important devotees and groups from different places and offered the tabarruk to them. Finally the tabarruk was distributed to common people. Distribution of tabarruk is the main feature of Ziarat.
Later in the evening The flag which was hoisted on SAMAKAHAN  was taken off declaring with this the urus celebrations ended by the khalifas.
In the ziarat or tahleel night, at tahajjud waqt , around 175 people (both men and women) were accepted as desciples of QADIRI order by HIS HOLINESS Sufi saint ALHAJ SYEDI AL SHAIK ZAHIRUDDIN SHA KHA DRI hifzullahi taala.
All major news papers continuously covered the news for 5 days. Television channels viz ETV2, ZEE telugu took the interview of sufi saint and will be telecasted in special programmes.

May Allah, through the Wasila of His Beloved Habeeb Sallal Laahu Alayhi Wasallam, increase our love for His Beloved Sallal Laahu Alayhi Wasallam, increase us in knowledge and experience of His vast Compassion and Mercy. Aameen.

PLACING FLOWERS AND CHADAR ON AND BRIGHTENING THE GRAVES

PLACING FLOWERS AND SHEETS ON AND BRIGHTENING THE GRAVES
There are three topics to this discussion,
1. Placing flowers on the graves of Saints (Mazaars).
2. Spreading sheets (ghilaafs) over them.
3. Illuminating the area.
The Ulama of the Ahle-Sunnat rule that it is permissible to place flowers on the grave of every Mu'min, irrespective of whether he is a Friend of Allah (Wali) or a sinner.
Regarding the placing of sheets on graves, the Jurists state that doing so is permissible for the graves of the Saints, Learned and Pious but impermissible for the graves of general Muslims because there is no benefit in this.
There is much detail in brightening the grave area (by lamps, candles, electricity, etc.) Doing so is impermissible if it is done at the graves of ordinary Muslims without any necessity. If there is one, however, it is allowed. If it is to demonstrate the greatness of the Saint (which the Mazaar belongs to), it is also acceptable. There are three necessities,
1. If a deceased is to be buried and light is needed, it is permissible.
2. If the grave is at the edge of the road and a light is lit there so that no one trips over it or so that people may see the light and come to make Fatiha, it is permissible.
3. If a person goes to the grave of a Muslim at night and wishes to recite the Quran, etc., brightening the grave-area is correct.
If light is lit for another reason besides these three, it is 'considered wastage and prohibited as a result. Concerning the Friends of Allah, even if no need at all is found, still too is it permissible because this is admiration towards them. The opposition refutes these three things. Thus, we divide this discussion into two sections-Section One in proof of our stance and Section Two dealing with their objections.
PROOF OF PLACING FLOWERS, SHEETS AND BRIGHTENING THE GRAVES (MAZAARS)
1. In the discussion before this, we have explained that the graves of the Saints are the signs of Allahعزوجل and to respect the signs of Allahعزوجل (i.e. the signs of His deen) is a Quranic instruction, “ومن یعظم شعائر اللہ فانھا من تقوی القلوب” 13.1 There is no restriction in demonstrating respect. AU permissible practices of showing respect which exist at any time are correct for use.
Placing flowers and sheets (ghilaafs) on their graves, as well as illuminating their Mazaars, is in admiration to them and, as a result, permissible. Fresh flowers have life and therefore make tasbeeh and tahleel. Through this tasbeeh etc, reward is attained or punishment is decreased for any ordinary Muslim grave, and the visitors to a Mazaar gain a pleasant fragrance.
Therefore, placing them on any Muslim grave is allowed. Even if the deceased is experiencing punishment, through the blessings of the tasbeeh, it is lessened. The source for this is the Hadith wherein the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم passed by two graves whose inmates were undergoing punishment. One of them never used to save himself from the drops of urine and the other was a backbiter. Sayyiduna Rasooullahصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم took a branch of a tree and broke into two parts, placing one on each grave. When he was asked about this he replied. "As long as they aren't dry, their punishment will be decreased." 13.2 - Mishkaat. Baabu Aadaabil-Khalaa, Section
Imam Nawawi رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ writes in the annotation of this Hadith, "It has been said that the punishment will be lessened because, as long as they are fresh, tasbeeh will be made by them. Based on this Hadith, Ulama have ruled that reciting the Holy Quran near the grave is Mustahab (preferred because this is more suited to lessen punishment than the tasbeeh of a branch." 13.3.
Under this very Hadith, Ashiatul-Lam'aat states, "A group (of Jurists) rule the permissibility of placing flowers, green plants and fragrance on graves based on this Hadith."
Mirqaat states under this Hadith, "We can deduce that placing fresh flowers on the Mazaars is Sunnat." 13.5 Tahtaawi alal-Maraaqil-Falaah states, "Based on this Hadith, some of our companions from the latter times have ruled that the practice of laying flowers and scenting is Sunnat." 13.6 -Pg. 364
The word 'some' in these extracts doesn't mean that other Ulama have ruled this to be impermissible. Rather, it means that some accept doing so to be Sunnat. All Ulama agree that it is permissible, though there is a difference amongst them concerning it being a practice of the Prophetصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم. Alamghiri states, "To place flowers and fragrance on graves is good." 13.7 - Kitaabul-Karaahiyat, Vol. 5, Baabu Ziyaaratil-Quboor
Discussing visiting the graves, Shaarni states, "From this and the Ahadith, it is ascertained that placing these things on the graves is Mustahab. The practice of placing branches of the myrtle plant, etc. On graves is modeled on this." 13.8-Vol. I, Ziyaaratil-Quboor
It further states. "The reason for the decrease in punishment is the branches not becoming dry. In other words, through the blessings of them making tasbeeh, the punishment of the grave is lessened, since the tasbeeh of a fresh branch is more complete in comparison to a dry one. This is because there is a kind of life existing in the former." 13.9 - Ibid
Two issues emerge from these Ahadith and extracts of the Commentators of Hadith and Jurists,
1. It is permitted to place every green plant, etc. on the graves of Muslims. The Holy Prophetصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمhimself placed branches on those graves that were undergoing punishment.
2. The decrease in punishment is through the blessings of the tasbeeh made by the green plants etc, not only because of Rasooullah’s صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم dua. If it was only due to this dua, why was the restriction of "as long as they are dry" mentioned in the Hadith?
Thus, today, if we lay flowers etc, the deceased will surely benefit from this action, Insha-Allah. The wisdom behind keeping the graves of general Muslims natural is that when it rains, green grass will sprout and, through the tasbeeh of the grass, the punishment of the deceased will decrease. This proves that placing flowers or green plants on the graves of Believers is allowed.
Maulwi Ashraf Ali Thanwi writes that flowers should be placed on the graves of Faasiqs (open transgressors of the Shariah), not on the graves and Mazaars of the Saints because there is no punishment there to be lessened through the placing of flowers, etc. - Islaahur-Rusoom
However, it should be bared in mind that the action which is a remover of hardship for sinners causes an increase in the rank of the pious, e.g. walking towards the Musjid erases our sins but increases the rank of the virtuous. Likewise, some duas eradicate the sins of criminals like us but increase the distinction of the pious. The logic used by the opposition necessitates that the pious should not come to the Musjids or make istighfaar because they are cleansed of sin. Through the tasbeeh of these flowers, the mercy of Allahعزوجل shall descend more upon their graves just as how it increases by the recitation of the Holy Quran.
2. Placing sheets (ghilaafs/chaadars) on the graves of the Friends of Allahعزوجل is permissible because through this, the grandeur of the inmate of the grave (who is a Wali) becomes apparent to the general public who visit. Allama Shaami writes, "Fatawa Hujja has stated that placing mantles on the graves is Makrooh (disliked). However, we say that if today, creating respect within the general public is intended by doing so (so that they may not deem the inmate of the grave with contempt but rather, through these shrouds, respect, admiration and awe is instilled amongst those unaware), then placing sheets is permissible. This is because actions are based on intentions." 13.10 _ Raddul-Muhtaar, Vol. 5, Baabul-Karaahiyat, Baabul- Labs
This extract of Shaarni has decided that whatever permissible action is done to demonstrate the greatness of the Auliya of Allah is permissible. The source of sheets is that even in the time of Rasooullahصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم the Kaaba was covered with the Ghilaaf and he didn't prohibited this. For centuries, there have been very expensive green coverings of silk over the Rauza Sharif of the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم. No one has disallowed this even until today. There is even a covering on (and a building built over) the Maqaam-e-Ibrahim (the stone on which Hadrat Ibrahim iti!l stood to build the Holy Kaaba).
Marvel at the glory of Allahعزوجل! The Najdi Wahabies still maintain the Maqaam-e-Ibrahim in the above manner. Why have sheets been placed over them? Simple: to demonstrate the greatness of these things.

THE URS (ANNIVERSARY ON THE DEPARTURE OF A SAINT)

THE URS  (ANNIVERSARY ON THE DEPARTURE OF A SAINT)
IN PROOF OF URS

The literal meaning of Urs is wedding, and it is for this reason that the bride and bridegroom are called 'Uroos'.

The date of demise of the Friends of Allahعزوجل and Buzurgs is called Urs because, whih the angels who question in the grave (Nakeerain) test the deceased and find him to be successful, they say, "Sleep like a bride who will not be awakened by anyone except for the person who is most beloved to her." 15.1 - Mishkaat, Baabu Ithbaatil-Qabr .Because these angels have called them 'Uroos' on that date, it therefore becomes the day of 'Urs',

Another reason is because, on this day, the angels will reveal the beauty and splendor of Rasoolullahصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم and ask him, "What did you say about this man?" He will reply, "He is the Uroos (adorned personality) of all creation. The entire creation has attained splendor through him." Meeting the beloved is the day of 'Urs', and it is for this reason that the day is called Urs.

Urs merely means to visit the grave on the date of demise every year, convey the reward of the recitation of the Holy Quran and give charity.

The source of Urs is found in the Ahadith and rulings of the Jurists

Shaami states, "Ibn Abi Shalba رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ states that the Holy Prophetصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم used to go to the graves of the martyrs (Shuhadaa) of Uhud every year." 15.2 - Vol. 1, Baabu Ziyaaratil-Quboor .

Tafseer-e-Kabeer and Durre-Mansoor state, "It is proven that the Prophetصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم. used to go to the graves of the martyrs every year and make Salaam to them. The four Khulafaa used to also do this."15.3 .

Shah Abdul-Azeez Muhaddith Dehlwi رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ writes, "Secondly, many people gather and, after completing the Quran and Fatiha on the Sheerini, distribute it amongst those present.

Haaji Imdaadulilb Muhaajir Makkir رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ , the Peer of Maulwi Rashid Ahmed and Ashraf Ali Thanwi, notably stresses the permissibility of Urs and, while explaining his practices, رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ writes, "The practice of this Feqe (i.e. myself) in this matter is that I make Isaal-e- Thawaab to the soul of my Peer every year. Firstly, Quran is recited, and if there is enough time, Moulood Sharif is read.

Maulwi Rashid Aluned Gangohi also accepts Urs to originally be permissible. He رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہwrites, "There are many things that were permissible originally but were then prohibited at a later time. Gatherings of Moulood and Urs are examples of this. It is known from Arabs that they used to commemorate the Urs of Hadrat Sayed Ahmed Badawi رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ on a large scale with much pomp, The Ulama of Medina used to especially observe the Urs of Sayyiduna Ameer Hamza رضی اللہ تعالٰی عنہ. Whose grave (Mazaar) was at the mountain of Uhud. In short, Muslims throughout the globe, including the Ulama, pious and especially the people of Madina, used to strictly observe Urs, and that which is good according to Muslims is good in the sight of A1lah عزوجل "-Fataawa Rashidia, Vol.1, Pg. 92

Rationally speaking, holding the Urs of the Saints should also be a good action.

Firstly, the Urs is a celebration of visiting the graves and giving charity. Both of these actions are Sunnah, so how can the collection of two Sunnahs be Haraam? The Holy Prophetصلی اللہ علیہ وسلم has said, "I had previously stopped you from visiting the graves. Now, you may definitely visit them. -Mishkaat, Baabu Ziyaaratil-Quboor.

This confirms the permissibility of visiting the graves in every manner. They can be visited daily or annually, alone or in a group. Thus, when someone enplaces his own restrictions to this (e.g. visiting the graves in a group is prohibited, or visiting it after appointing a date for it every year, etc.), it is inconsequential. The practice is permissible with or without specifying a date or day.

Secondly, appointing a date for Urs eases the gathering of people. They gather together and collectively recite the Holy Quran, Zikr, Durood, etc. and, through this, many blessings are attained.

Thirdly, all of the mureeds of a Peer gather on the date of his demise and come to know of each other's conditions. They meet unceremoniously and love is increased through this.

Significance of Ashura and Imam Hussain radiallahu taala anh

The conventional meaning of Ashura in the Shariah refers to the 10th of Muharram-ul-Haraam. In his distinguished book, "Ghuniyatut Taalibeen", Sayyiduna Ghaus-ul-Azam, Sheikh Abdul Qaadir Jilani (radi Allahu anhu) writes that the Ulema have a difference of opinion, as to why this day is known as Ashura. Since the reason has been explained in various ways, the consensus of the majority of the Ulema is that it is known as Ashurah because it is the 10th day of Muharram, while certain Ulema say that from the sacred days that Almighty Allah blessed the Ummat-e-Muhammadi with, this day is the 10th most important day, and it is for this reason that it is known as Ashurah. (Ghuniyatut Taalibeen)

Significant Events concerning Ashurah

With the exception of the Martyrdom of Sayyiduna Imam-e-Hussain (radi Allahu anhu) there are also various other incidents which occurred on Yaum-e-Ashurah. It is also for those reasons that this day has received such excellence. In his internationally renowned Kitaab, "Nuzhatul Majaalis", Sayyiduna Sheikh Abdur Rahman Safoori (radi Allahu anhu) explains the following important events which took place on Yaum-e-Ashurah:

1. It was on this day that the Skies earth and the Lauw-e-Qalam came into existence.
2. It was on this day that Sayyiduna Adam (alaihis salaam) and Sayyiduna Hawa were created.
3. Sayyiduna Adam's (alaihis salaam) Tauba was accepted.
4. Sayyiduna Nooh's (alaihis salaam) Ark came on land.
5. Sayyiduna Ibrahim (alaihis salaam) received the status of Khaleelullah.
6. Sayyiduna Yaqub (alaihis salaam) met Sayyiduna Yusuf (alaihis salaam) after 40 years.
7. Sayyiduna Idrees (alaihis salaam) was raised into the skies.
8. Sayyiduna Ayub (alaihis salaam) regained his health.
9. Sayyiduna Yunus (alaihis salaam) was released from the stomach of the fish.
10. Sayyiduna Dawud's (alaihis salaam) Tauba was accepted.
11. Sayyiduna Sulaiman (alaihis salaam) received his Kingdom.
12. Sayyiduna Esa (alaihis salaam) was raised into the skies.
13. Sayyiduna Muhammad Mustapha (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) made Nikah to Sayyiduna Bibi Khadija (radi Allahu anha).
14. It is on this day that Qiyamat will occur.

The Salaah of Yaum-e-Ashurah

The Holy Prophet Muhammad Mustapha (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has stated, "That person who performs four rakaats of Salaah on the day of Ashurah in this way, that he reads the entire Sura Ikhlaas (Qulhuwal laa) 11 times after Sura Fatiha in every rakaat, then Almighty Allah will forgive fifty years of his sins, and he will blessed with a Mimbar (pulpit) of Noor." (Nuzhatul Majalis, Vol.1, Pg. 181)

The Fasting of Yaum-e-Ashurah

To keep fast on the day of Ashurah is worthy of great reward. The Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) used to even fast on this day and He used to also command others to fast on this day. It is recorded in "Sahihain" from Sayyiduna Abu Moosa Ash'ari (radi Allahu anhu) that the Jews used to respect the day of Ashura and they also rejoiced on this day. The Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) commanded, "You too should fast in this day". In one Hadith of "Muslim", it is recorded that the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "On the day of Ashurah, the People of Khaibar keep fast, rejoice and dress their wives in good clothes and jewellery. O Muslims! You too should fast on this day."

Sayyiduna Qatadah (radi Allahu anhu) reports that the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) has stated, "On the day of Ashurah I hope that through this (Ashurah) Almighty Allah will make it a means of Kafaara for past sins." (Mishkat Shareef, Pg. 179)

In the year 10 A.H., when the Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) was keeping the fast of Ashurah, the Sahaba-e-Kiraam (ridwaan nulahi ta'ala ajma'in) requested, "This is that day which is honoured by the Jews and Christians." The Holy Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "If I am here next year, then I shall also fast on the 9th (of Muharram)." (Mishkat Shareef, Pg. 179) If is for this reason that we should not only fast on the tenth, but also on the ninth of Muharram-ul-Haraam.

Important A'maal (practices) on Yaum-e-Ashurah

1. It is recorded in "Tafseer Roohul Bayaan" that the person who stays awake on the night of Ashurah gains the Sawaab of the Mala'ikah.
2. The Masha'ikh have stated that by making Ghusl on this day, the sicknesses for the entire year are washed away.
3. Shaami in "Kitaabus Saum" states that using surma on this day will not cause they eye to pain for the entire year.

WHAT RASOOLULLAH (SALLAL LAAHU ALAIHI WASALLAM) SAID ABOUT SAYYIDUNA IMAM HUSAIN (RADI ALLAHU ANHU) IN THE HADITH SHAREEF

1. According to Tirmizi Shareef, Sayyiduna Jabir (radi Allahu anhu) reported: I saw Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) in his Farewell Pilgrimage on the Day of Arafat while he was riding on the camel, Qaswa, to deliver the sermon. I heard him say, "O People! I have left among you something which if you adhere to, you will never be misguided - the Book of Allah and my progeny (the People of my House)".

2. It is also reported in Tirmizi Shareef: Sayyiduna Zain bin Arqam (radi Allahu anhu) reported that Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said to Sayyiduna Ali, Bibi Fathima, Sayyiduna Hasan and Sayyiduna Husain (radi Allahu anhuma), "I am at war with those who fight with them, at peace with those who remain in peace with them".

3. In another Hadith from Tirmizi Shareef: Sayyiduna Ya'la bin Murrah (radi Allahu anhu) reported that Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said: "Husain is from me and I am from Husain. Allah loves him who loves Husain. Husain is a descendant out of my descendants".

4. It is stated in Sunan Imam Ahmad: Sayyiduna Abu Zarr (radi Allahu anhu) reported while holding the door of the Kaaba, "I heard Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) say, 'The parable of the People of my House among you is the parable of the Ark of Noah. Those who got on it were safe, and whoso remained behind were destroyed".

5. It is stated in Sunan Baihaqi: Sayyiduna Ummul Fazl (radi Allahu anha), daughter of Harith, reported: I went to Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and said, "O Rasoolullah! I have seen a horrible dream tonight". He asked, "And what is it?" She said, "I saw a piece of your flesh had been cut off and placed in my lap". Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) said, "You had seen good. If Allah Wills, Fathima will give birth to a son who you will nurse". Then, Sayyiduna Fathima (radi Allahu anha) gave birth to Sayyiduna Husain and he was under my nurse just as Rasoolullah (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) had said. One day, I went to the Prophet (sallal laahu alaihi wasallam) and placed the child on his lap. Thereafter, his look was fixed towards me and both his eyes were shedding tears. I said, "O Prophet of Allah! By my father and mother! What is the matter with you?" He said, "Jibrael came and informed me that my followers will soon kill this grandson of mine". I asked, "Him?" He said, "Yes, He brought some earth to me out of his red earth". (i.e. from the sands of Karbala)

TEN MIRACULOUS EVENTS THAT TOOK PLACE AT THE TIME OF THE MARTYRDOM OF SAYYIDUNA IMAM HUSAIN (RADI ALLAHU ANHU)

According to the Kitaab, "Thareek-ul-Khulafa", ten miraculous events were recorded about the time of the Shahaadah of Sayyiduna Imam Husain (radi Allahu anhu). These events were also included on pages 46 and 47 of the Kitaab, "Karamaat-e-Sahaba", by Molvi Ashraf Ali of Thana Bhavan.

It is stated in "Thareek-ul-Khulafa" by Imam Jalaluddin Suyuti (radi Allahu anhu) that, "When Sayyiduna Imam Husain (radi Allahu anhu) was martyred, for seven days the following conditions prevailed on earth:-

1. When the sun rose each day, there was a constant shroud of redness covering the earth as if the sun's rays came out in the form of a lifeless blanket.
2. There was a continuous scene of stars colliding with each other in the skies.
3. His martyrdom took place on the 10th of Muharram 60 A.H. and on this day there was a total eclipse of the sun.
4. From about six months prior to his martyrdom, a strange redness enveloped the horizon of the skies, which gradually disappeared, and such a phenomenon was never witnessed again.
5. On the day of his martyrdom, beneath every stone in Baitul Muqaddas, there appeared fresh blood.
6. Grass and straw that was used in the oppressor's army (i.e. Yazid's army) had all suddenly turned to burnt out ashes.
7. The oppressor's army had slaughtered a female camel to feed the soldiers. From the meat of this slaughtered animal, sparks of fire began to fly all the time.
8. When the meat of the slaughtered camel was cooked, it turned out to be bitter and poisonous.
9. One person who spoke ill about Sayyiduna Imam Husain (radi Allahu anhu) was punished by Almighty Allah in such a way that he was hit by two falling stars from the sky which diminished his power of sight progressively.
10. Regarding the conditions of these days (of martyrdom), Sayyiduna Abu Na'eem (radi Allahu anhu) states in his Kitaab, "Dala'il", that Sayyiduna Umme Salma (radi Allahu anha) narrated that when Sayyiduna Imam Husain (radi Allahu anhu) was martyred, the Jinns were heard to wail and weep openly in expression of their grief."

I call you all to have Aesale thawab or Fateha on Imam hussain raz and his Ashabs shuhuda e karbala, and do duva through their wasila.
